Texas A&M International’s Camilo Botero scored in the 80th minute to give the Dustdevils a 2-2 tie against Eastern New Mexico University in a men’s soccer match called in the 84th minute due to darkness at the ENMU pitch.
The teams had lightning delay lasting nearly two hours, which pushed back the scheduled 4 p.m. start. The Greyhounds (2-3-1) erased a 1-0 halftime deficit and had just gone in front on senior midfielder Kal Herbert’s free-kick goal from about 25 yards out in the 78th minute before Botero tied it again.
Herbert has scored in each of ENMU’s last four outings, tying a school mark set in 2007 by Ryan McClanahan and matched two years later by Emerson Rodrigues.
International (1-3-1) took the lead when Ryan Hodgson took a cross from Diego Manzano-Cano and headed the ball past ENMU goalkeeper Severin Niessen midway through the first half.
The Hounds tied it as freshman forward Carlos converted a short pass from sophomore midfielder Carlos Viveros about seven minutes into the second half, beating Dustdevils keeper Jesus Cisneros from close range.
ENMU returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday with a home matchup against Dallas Baptist.
