Freshman Hayden Segelke and senior Gina Flewelling went 1-2 in goat tying to lead the Eastern New Mexico University’s women’s rodeo team to a third-place finish in the school’s College “Daze” Rodeo over the weekend at Lewis Cooper Arena.
The Zias finished with 245 points in the nine-team competition, trailing only South Plains College (295) and Tarleton State (250).
Segelke was first in the first go, the short round and in average in goat tying, while Flewelling took second in average. Also for ENMU, Keely Jo Weger was third in the short go and split fifth and sixth in the average.
ENMU’s men shared fourth place with New Mexico Junior College, each with 245 points, in an 11-school competition. Weatherford College was first at 470, followed by Tarleton State (345) and Western Texas College (310).
For the Greyhounds, freshman Ace Thurston was fourth in steer wrestling and sixth in bareback riding. Portales junior Clay Bonner took fifth in calf roping and, with teammate Hadley Howe, split fifth and sixth in team roping.
ENMU squads return to action in the Vernon (Texas) College Rodeo, starting on Oct. 3.
