WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Another day, another streak ends for the Eastern New Mexico University volleyball team.

The Zias, who snapped losing streaks of 16 Lone Star conference matches overall and 24 LSC road tilts with a win last week at Cameron, notched their first victory in nine years over Midwestern State on Tuesday by ekeing out a 26-24, 25-22, 26-24 decision over the Mustangs.

ENMU (4-7, 2-1 LSC) has now put together consecutive conference road wins for the first time since Nov. 4-6, 2004, when the Zias beat Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Kingsville. It was also their first victory over MSU since Sept. 27, 2004, also at Wichita Falls.

Freshman outside hitter Lauren Frye had 11 kills for ENMU, while freshman outside hitter Courtney Lawson compiled nine kills and 16 digs. Senior libero Hayley Couch posted 24 digs, and junior setter Karra Day had 13 assists.

Caitlin Wallace led MSU (7-5, 0-4) with eight digs.

The Zias trailed 8-4 in the first set before storming back with a 10-5 run, helped out by six errors from the Mustangs. ENMU nailed down the set on a kill by Lawson.

In Game 2, ENMU opened a 20-12 lead, but the Mustangs counted with a 9-2 charge to get close. Order was restored with the help of a kill by junior middle blocker Agatha Gibbons and a team block by senior middle blocker Bree Lucero and Frye.

Midwestern controlled most of the third set and led 23-18 before the Zias closed on an 8-1 run, getting back-to-back kills from Gibbons and Lawson to end it.

ENMU steps outside the conference for its next outing on Tuesday, a 7 p.m. matchup against Lubbock Christian at Greyhound Arena.
