SANTA FE — The Santa Fe Prep Blue Griffins turned the tables on Portales on Friday.
The Rams posted a 2-1 District 2/1A-3A boys soccer win over Santa Fe Prep at home last Saturday. In Friday’s rematch, though, the Blue Griffins posted a 3-0 victory.
“They were missing two or three players last time,” Rams coach Nathan Dodge said. “They were tougher to beat (on the road). They played really good today, and we just weren’t on.”
Sophomore midfielder Adam Weyhrauch and Sam Brill each had a goal for the Blue Griffins (8-2, 4-1 district), each assisted by Weyeth Carpenter.
The Rams fell to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in district.
In girls action, the Blue Griffins (4-6, 3-1) got two goals from Bridgid Quinn for the second time in a week against Portales, and posted their second 2-1 win over the Lady Rams. Quinn scored the game-winner at PHS in overtime.
This time, she got both goals in the first half. Junior Chelsea Lopez put the Lady Rams (3-7, 1-3) on the board with about 19 minutes left, assisted by sophomore Angel Gallegos, but that was it.
“We had a little lull early, but came out strong in the second half,” said PHS assistant coach Amber Thomas, filling in as head coach Sara Vasquez expects to deliver a baby within the next few days. “We had a lot of shots, but we weren’t able to get them in the goal.”
