Cannon shutdown impact

Information about the federal government shutdown’s impact on Cannon Air Force Base, posted on the Cannon Commandos Facebook page.

The intent of this post is to provide information regarding the 27th Special Operations Force Support Squadron activities that are affected by the government shutdown to include closures, limited services, and event cancellations.

Due to the government shutdown the following facilities will be closed until further notice:

  • Auto Skills Center/Car Wash
  • Education Center (see Contingency Plan below)
  • Cannon Library (see Contingency Plan below)
  • Community Center
  • Outdoor Recreation (see Contingency Plan below)

 

Due to the government shutdown the following activities can provide limited service until further notice:

  • Airman & Family Readiness Center (see Contingency Plan below)
  • Youth Center (see Contingency Plan below)
  • Civilian Personnel Office
  • Nonappropriated Fund Human Resources

 

The following facilities are still open for normal business:

  • Cannon Lanes
  • Caprock Inn
  • Child Development Centers
  • Drop Zone
  • Family Child Care
  • Fitness Center (new 24/7 hours)
  • Honor Guard
  • Landing Zone
  • Military Personnel Flight Customer Service
  • Pecos Trail Dining Facility
  • Whispering Winds Golf Course

Contingency plans

Cannon Library:

  • Library materials that reach their due date are being accepted at the Marketing and Commercial Sponsorship office at the location listed below.

Youth Center:

  • Although the open recreation program at the Youth Center is directly affected by the government shutdown and will be closed, the School Age Program is still open and operating under normal hours.

 

Airman & Family Readiness Center:

  • The A&FRC is open during this period but with limited services. For questions concerning A&FRC call 784-4228.

 

Outdoor Recreation:

  • If you reserved items from Outdoor Recreation prior to the government period these items will still be available for you. Outdoor Recreation will be open on Monday and Friday for pick-up and return services only.

 

Education Center:

  • Although the Education Center is directly affected by the government shutdown, scheduled Testing, with the exception of DANTES or CLEP, will remain available at this time.
  • Tuition Assistance Update
  • During the government shut down, MilTA requests will not be processed. Airmen with an approved requests for FY14 courses must be aware that these requests are tentative based on the availability of funds and may result in an airmen’s financial responsibility if funding is not secured. Please be prepared to use other funding sources. Any airmen who did not have a MilTA approved by the Ed Center by Sept. 30, will have to wait until the shutdown is over to have these forms approved. Any TAs in the queue with Sept. 30 will be eligible for approval upon civilian personnel return to work. Those that are not will be determined on a case by case basis. There will be more guidance forthcoming as they work through the details at AF/A1.

 

Permanent Change of Station moves:

  • Per Air Force Personnel Center, there is no Stop Movement in place at this time. Those who currently have orders to PCS will continue to out-process. Those awaiting orders can expect a delay as the budget is being worked out.

  • According to Commissaries.com, the official online resource of the Defense Commissary Agency, Cannon’s commissary is closed until further notice.
