SAN ANGELO, Texas — Senior middle blocker Maddie Huth had 14 kills and senior defensive specialist Shelby Witt added a season-high 21 digs as Angelo State, ranked seventh in NCAA Division II, posted a 25-13, 25-23, 25-17 Lone Star Conference volleyball victory over Eastern New Mexico University on Friday night.
ASU (11-2, 4-0 LSC) extended its regular-season home winning streak to 24 matches heading into today’s showdown against No. 11 West Texas A&M (13-3, 3-0).
Freshman outside hitter Lauren Frye led the Zias (4-9, 2-2) with 11 kills, while senior libero Hayley Couch had a match-high 25 digs and freshman setter Karra Day added 19 assists. Senior middle blocker Bree Lucero of Fort Sumner posted a match-high five total blocks for ENMU, including a career-high three solo blocks .
ENMU led 5-3 early in Game 1, but the Rambelles rallied for an 11-8 lead, then scored 14 of the final 17 points after the Zias closed to 11-10.
The Zias then overcame a 4-1 deficit with an 8-1 surge in the second set, forcing four ASU attack errors in the process. Two kills by Frye staked ENMU to a 16-12 lead before the Rambelles went on an 11-9 tear and held on to win the set.
Angelo controlled the third set to close out the match.
ENMU is back in action today with a 1 p.m. LSC matchup against Tarleton State at Stephenville, Texas.
