TEXICO — After a bit of a rough start, the Portales Lady Rams took control Tuesday night.
Behind 15 kills and 11 digs from senior Kristen Wagner, PHS improved to 10-4 with a 25-19, 25-14, 25-12 win over the Texico Lady Wolverines.
Wagner was one of four Lady Rams with at least nine digs. Senior setter Pari Cox had 25 assists, while junior setter Brooke Lopez added nine assists and three of the Lady Rams’ nine aces.
Texico (8-6) jumped to a 12-3 lead in the first set before the tide quickly turned.
“We started out kind of slow, but after that we did some good things,” PHS coach Ruth Chavez said. “Our setters, Pari and Brooke, did a good job of getting the ball into the hands of our hitters tonight.”
For Texico, senior middle blocker Chasity Sharp had team-highs of four kills and six blocks. Senior libero Marina Rodriguez posted 14 digs, while junior setter Taylor Stephens had nine assists.
The Lady Rams return to action on Thursday, hosting Lovington in their District 4-3A opener at the Ram Athletic Center.
