PORTALES — Senior outside hitter Marija Jovanovic posted a season-high 14 kills and freshman setter Alyssa Fulgium added a double-double as Midwestern State posted a 25-23, 17-25, 25-21, 25-16 Lone Star Conference volleyball victory over Eastern New Mexico University on Saturday at Greyhound Arena.

The Mustangs (11-8, 3-7 LSC), who lost to ENMU in Wichita Falls, Texas, earlier this season, have won four of their last five matches to pull even in the LSC standings with the Zias (5-14, 3-7).

Freshman outside hitter Courtney Lawson posted her 10th double-double of the season with 14 kills and 13 digs for the Zias, while freshman outside hitter Lauren Frye added 11 kills. Junior setter Kennedi Catano had a match-high 34 assists and tied a season-best with four aces, while senior libero Hayley Couch finished with a match-high 25 digs.

ENMU erased an early six-point deficit in the first game behind Lawson, who had three kills to help the Zias move in front 23-22 lead before the Mustangs rallied for the final three points.

The Zias opened a 15-10 lead with a 9-3 run in the second set and the Mustangs didn’t get closer than five after that. Then Catano posted back-to-back aces to help ENMU build a 4-0 lead in the third set, but the Mustangs took the lead for good 10-9 on an ace by freshman Sarah Rosinke and slowly pulled away.

MSU then scored the first five points of Game 4, saw the Zias pull to 8-6 on an ace by senior Kaitlyn Maddams and then steadily stretched the lead from there.

ENMU hits the road to take on Texas A&M-Kingsville in an LSC match at 1 p.m. (MDT) on Saturday.
