Altrusa International of Clovis held its monthly program meeting on Nov. 11 at Muffley’s Back Door in Clovis.
The meeting was called to order by President Sylvia Bean and the Altrusa Opening Prayer was recited.
There was a quorum present with members Sylvia Bean, Kathy Travis, Judith Glikas, Margaret Blazek, Judy Cox, Mary Weigl, Victoria Montiel, Carolyn Muffley and Laurie Westerman.
The club enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by hostesses Bean and Cox.
The guest for the evening was Karen Dane, who presented “Humor to De-stress During the Holidays.”
A business meeting will be held 5:30 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
The Nov. 9t meeting of the El Portal chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held in the home of Pam Wallace following the Veterans Day Parade in Clovis.
Members of the DAR and The CAR met at Hilltop Plaza to decorate the entry float for the parade.
Regent Vicky Stratton called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. and led the opening rituals.
Members presented the National Defense Minute, Constitutional minute, Indian minute and conservation minute as well as the president general’s message.
A package is being sent to Alice Bischoff, our member who is serving overseas.
Members and guests present were Vicky Stratton, Nancy Bauder, Sandy Hays, Carol Nash, Pam Wallace, Karolyn Sailer, Wenonah Hunton, Magann Rennels, Linda Baldock, Glynda and Tayler Dallas, Jessie Strauch and Katelyn Hawkins.
Meals on Wheels
The Meals on Wheels Board of Directors met Tuesday evening.
President Phyllis Davidson opened the meeting, with following members in attendance: George Boal, Cleta Cook, Angela Cowart, Malcolm Cowart, Judy Cox, Darrell Underwood, Mary Weigl, Harold Wuest and ex-coordinator Sherry Turner. Guests were Viola Godwin and Dottie Hoxie.
Finance Report was reviewed; Turner provided the monthly report, including details on MOW’s “Share the Cost” program.
Updates were provided on the Food Fest Fundraiser scheduled for 2014.
Members will contact local restaurants asking their participation in this worthy cause. Members will provide home-made cookies for the Open House at the Matt 25 Hope Center following the Festival of Lights Christmas Parade.
Members voted in the 2014 officers: President — Phyllis Davidson; Vice President — Angela Cowart; Secretary — Cleta Cook; Treasurer — Malcolm Cowart; and Assistant Treasurer — Harold Wuest.
Next meeting is Dec. 17.
The Portales Woman’s Club met on Nov. 13, with President Julie Nickles presiding.
Landri Thomas, a kindergarten student at Brown Early Childhood Center, led the pledges. Nickles led the Club Collect, and gave the invocation.
The minutes from the previous meeting were approved, and the treasurer’s report was filed.
There were 16 members and three guests present.
Correspondence was read.
The door prize was won by Amber Hamilton.
Patti Schroeder introduced her hostess committee: Mary Louise Childress, Erinn Burch and Doncella Caywood.
Kathleen Donalson and her son, Jake Taylor, presented a power point program on their mission trip to Africa. Each is planning to return for additional training and mission work in the future. Following the program, Beth Banda presented each with a certificate of appreciation.
The next meeting will be 11:30 a.m. Dec. 11 at the club building.
