ENMU tracksters compete at Texas Tech Open

LUBBOCK — Senior Jacob Lozano won the men’s 5,000 while juniors Beth Blind, Sabrina Huelga and Alesha Jones and sophomore Amber Saiz placed third in the women’s distance medley relay, highlighting Eastern New Mexico University performances over the weekend in the Texas Tech Open indoor track meet.

Lozano posted a time of 15 minutes, 42.16 seconds, 10 seconds ahead of the runnerup, in recording the third-fastest 5,000 time in school history. Meantime, the women’s relay team clocked in at 12:43.55 to finish behind Texas Tech and Tarleton State.

Other men’s highlights included senior Isaiah Samoei placing second in the 3,000 in 8:49.02; junior Kaspar Briska finishing fifth in the 1,000 with a school-record time of 2:32.83, and senior Zerrick Vriseno placing fourth in the 5,000 in a personal-best 16:04.73.

For the women, sophomore Jenae Wolfram placed third in the weight throw at 41-1 3/4, the third-best in Zias history; senior Brittany Buchanan ran a school-record 5,000 time of 18:41.61, placing her sixth; Jones set a school record in placing eighth in the 600 in 1:26.93; Blind ran first in her heat and sixth overall in the 1,000 in 3:14.89, and sophomore Clarissa Salazar had personal bests in finishing seventh in the weight throw at 40-6 1/4 and a non-scoring toss of 37-3 3/4 in shot put.
