ENMU athletes set two indoor track marks

LUBBOCK — Eastern New Mexico University senior Isaiah Samoei and junior Beth Blind set school records on Saturday’s second day of competition in Texas Tech’s Masked Rider Open indoor track meet.

Samoei took third in the men’s 3,000-meter run in 8 minutes, 26.19 seconds, breaking his own school mark of 8:30.89. Teammates Kaspars Briska and Jacob Lozano were fourth and seventh, respectively, in times of 8:37.43 and 8:54.14.

Meantime, the women got a record-setting performance from Blind in the mile run in 5:06.16, breaking teammate Sabrina Huelga’s school mark of 5:18. In addition,Huelga was sixth in 5:11.72 and sophomore Amber Saiz seventh in 5:13.56, both also breaking the previous record.

Junior Alesha Jones, who was sixth in the 600-yard run in 1:25.61, finished 18th in Saturday’s 400-meter run at 59.12 seconds, but she broke Mika Willis’ previous mark of 1:04.80.

Also on Friday, the women’s 3,200-meter relay team of Jones, Huelga, Saiz and Blind finished third in 9:25.09.
