HOBBS — Freshman right-hander Keigan Basso carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and Eastern New Mexico University pounded out 21 hits in a 19-1 rout of University of the Southwest on Sunday to complete a doubleheader sweep.

In the opener, left fielder Ryan Forkel went 4-for-4 as the Greyhounds posted a 9-1 win. ENMU will take a 10-2 record into a four-game, Lone Star Conference-opening series this weekend at Tarleton State.

Already with a 19-0 lead, Basso (2-0) allowed a leadoff double to USW senior Christian McCrimon in the bottom of the sixth. After retiring the next two hitters, Basso was lifted for freshman Jonathan Joy, and McCrimon scored on a three-base error by junior second baseman Sean Gahan.

The Hounds scored three runs in each of the first three innings against USW (1-7), then posted an eight-run fourth. Nine of their 17 runs against three USW pitchers were unearned, the result of four errors.

Meantime, senior first baseman Rafael Romo drove in five runs with a double, two singles and a sacrifice fly, while junior designated hitter Mark Foley added three hits and four RBIs, including a three-run homer — his first — to cap the fourth-inning eruption.

In the opener, junior left-hander Rusty Edwards (3-0) allowed six hits and an unearned run in five innings. The Hounds broke op top in the second on a bases-loaded walk to Gahan and a sacrifice fly by junior center fielder Matthew Burks before Forkel made it 4-0 with a two-run single in the third.

The Hounds, who finished with 11 hits, chased junior right-hander Kris Ramirez (1-1) and made it 7-0 in the fourth on run-scoring singles by senior Colton Sims and juniors Brett Cooper and Steven Moore. Gahan hit an RBI groundout in the fifth and Cooper tripled home Burks in the seventh.
