ODESSA, Texas — Senior TiAda Gray’s second-place finish in breakaway roping helped the Eastern New Mexico University women’s rodeo team take first place over the weekend in the Odessa College Rodeo, the first event of the spring season.

The Zias scored 275 points to 260 for Tarleton State and 240 for Weatherford College. With the win, the Zias continued to lead the South Central Region standings for the year.

Gray, a Tatum High graduate, finished second in both the average and the short go after a first-place finish in the first go. Junior Keely Weger split second and third in barrel racing after finishing second in the first go to account for the remaining points.

ENMU’s men did not get anyone to the short go and were shut out for the weekend. Weatherford won the men’s competition with 545 points, while New Mexico Junior College was second at 360.

The Greyhounds and Zias are back in action this weekend in the Ranger College Rodeo, starting on Thursday.
