Rams finish second in Jim Love Invite

Staff report

The Portales Rams managed to win only one event in Friday’s Jim Love Invitational track meet at PHS, but they scored in enough events to earn a second place team finish.

PHS compiled 69 points to edge past Texico (65 1/2) and Belen (65) and finish behnd only Friona (79).

Michael Nichols earned the lone win for the PHS boys, going 18 feet, 11 inches in long jump to finish just ahead of teammate Jonathan Bargas (18-8).

They scored in 15 events overall, though, to squeak out the runnerup finish.

“It was a great meet,” Rams coach Glenn Johnson said. “I felt our kids competed very well. I think we’re pretty much on track where we need to be.”

Girls results from the meet were not available Saturday night. The PNT is planning to run those in Tuesday’s paper.

PHS squads are now idle until April 17 when they compete in the Clovis Invite.
