Rams hold off Tigers for first win

The Portales Rams took four of six flights in singles, and finally got some momentum late in the season with a 6-3 win over Raton.

The win is the first this season for the Portales boys (1-4), and the first win for Logan Brown, in his first year coaching the Ram boys.

“I think it was a good morale boost, show us we’re doing something right,” Brown said.

Zachary Laurenz and Adam Hernandez had undefeated days for the Rams. Laurenz took his No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-1 over Forrest McConnell, and Hernandez defeated Raton’s Nathan Coleman. The two teamed up in doubles and beat McConnell and Coleman 6-3, 7-5.
Efforts to collect scores from Tuesday’s girls match were unsuccessful as of press time.

Brown said Portales has two more home matches, Friday against Moriarty and Monday against Ruidoso, before the district championship next week in Lovington.
