Start of summer prime time for winter shopping

The kids are on summer break and although we’ve all declared it summer, the solstice doesn’t actually begin until June 21.

This past week, when I had to pull out a couple of short sets for the kids, is when it occurred to me that it’s time to get that summer wardrobe into rotation.

The best thing about the changing weather is that it is always a great excuse to go retail shopping.

There are benefits to shopping for clothes for the entire family. As some mothers may know, when shopping for summer items it is also a great opportunity to save a lot of money on back-to-school clothing, that is, clothing to wear for the cooler weather of course.

This is the time when all the fall and winter wear goes on sale.

Last week at one of our family’s favorite retail stores, I purchased kids’ long-sleeved shirts and dress cardigans for 97 cents. Yes, 97 cents!

Winter coats are really great to buy in the summer as well. I think I may have come close to having already completed my school clothes shopping in just that one trip.

Another mission for this summer that I have yet to begin is the summer blouse search. Batwing short-sleeved tops with their loose fit and sheer chiffon summer blouses are my favorites.

Furthermore, I’m always either too hot or too cold so I love a loose sweater to throw on when inside a cool building and toss to the side when driving. So, although I love the summer, my goal of finding an abundance of long-sleeved summer tops is definitely my ultimate destination.
