Club notes — July 27

Food Storage 101
Food Storage 101 Class gathered at Jim and Lee Lawrence’s home to learn about raised box gardening.

Lee is a qualified master gardener and with Jim, a qualified handy man. They have created a beautiful back yard from a bare parking lot like area in their back yard. By sectioning off the raised boxes, conditioning the soil with compost from leaves, grass and the kitchen, they are able to harvest enough food to enjoy, preserve and share.
Lee says this method takes less work and less water.

The class then met at the LDS Cultural Hall and were instructed about canning fruit and salsa using the boiling water method. This week’s lesson will be on Dehydrating food.

There will be no meeting July 31.
