Just three years after Danielle Jones-Kcholi finished competing for the Eastern New Mexico University track and cross crountry teams, she is now coach for both programs.

The university announced the move Tuesday in a release. Jones-Kholi was already the college’s cross country coach, and takes over the track program from Melinda Bendik.

“I couldn’t be more excited and humbled by the opportunity, and I am ready to hit the ground running,” Jones-Kcholi said in the release.

Athletic director Jeff Geiser said the best element Jones-Kcholi brings to the program is her time with the university as a student and coach.

“The element that our cross country/track and field programs need is continuity in the coaching staff,” ENMU Geiser said in the release. “Danielle is going to give us that.”

Last season, the Albuquerque native led the women’s cross country team to fifth place in the LSC championship and a program-best eighth place in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional championship.

As a junior in 2010, she finished sixth in the 10,000-meter run in the LSC championships.

She will be assisted by Colton Coleman, a 2013 ENMU graduate who was an athlete for the school’s football and track programs.
