HAGERMAN — The Elida Lady Tigers overcame a slow start to open the volleyball season on Thursday with a 13-25, 25-12, 25-15, 25-9 win over Hagerman.
“It looked like the first game of the season,” Elida coach Darrell Chenault said of the slow start. “After we got playing a little bit and settled down, we played well.”
Elida also took a pair of preliminary matches, the junior varsity posting a 25-20, 25-14 victory while the junior high won 25-22, 25-21.
Elida returns to action today and Saturday in a tournament at Eunice.
Elsewhere, Floyd dropped a 3-0 decision to Springer in the first round of an eight-team tournament at Logan.
The Lady Broncos return to action in the consolation semifinals at 11:30 a.m. Saturday against the Tucumcari junior varsity. They will play for either seventh place at 1 p.m. or fifth at 3:30 p.m..
