The Portales Police Department issued a warrant Thursday for a 27-year-old Portales man accused of assaulting an acquaintance of his ex-girlfriend, according to PPD Capt. Lonnie Berry.

Police said Juan Bustamante struck Jame L. Ornelas, 33, of Portales in the head at about 11 p.m. Monday at a residence in the 1600 block of South Ave. A, Berry said.

The residence was that of Bustamante’s ex-girlfriend.

 Ornelas was transported to Lubbock for treatment of his injuries and was last listed in stable condition.

Bustamante has been charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated assault and battery of a household member.
