Job description: Selling fiber optic Internet and phone services on the phone and in the office. Schedules installations, helps with marketing for the fiber optic products and fills in where needed around the office.
Training: She had to learn how fiber optic network operates and learn about its construction. Sales training and training in telecommunication privacy laws were also necessary. She also received training on how to take payments and other office functions.
Q. What is a typical day on the job like?
A. “It’s kind of funky with my class schedule. When I come in, I go to the bank and post office and sort the mail when I get back. Once the routine stuff is done, I work on whatever marketing program we have going. Sometimes that includes sending out post cards.
Q. Why did you choose this job?
A. “I really liked the people who worked here, I knew them before I started here. I’d also heard about the fiber optic project and knew that would give me experience working with people.”
Q. What do you enjoy most about your job?
A. “Working with people. I’m from Portales and I enjoy meeting new people. I enjoy letting people know about our new products. It’s a fun, relaxed environment here.”
