Pilot Club
The Pilot Club of Clovis held their regular business meeting April 9 at Muffley's Backdoor. Officers for 2012-2013 are president Sue Rutter, president elect Darlene Rose, secretary Molly Stansell and treasurer Janet Barnhart.
A program meeting was held April 23. Pilots enjoyed a pizza lunch. President Sue Rutter brought a very interesting program on her trip to Belize.
Pilot Club of Clovis is dedicated to community service. Anyone interested in community service, please contact Sue Rutter at 762-0491.
El Portal DAR chapter
The El Portal chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met May 5 at the home of Nancy Bauder in Clovis. Nancy also gave the program which was about the Air Force museum in Dayton, Ohio. She and her husband went to a convention of the River Rats and were able to tour the museum. We watched a video showing various airplanes from the beginning of flight which are on display. Wright Patterson AFB also has a large hangar where the presidential planes are on exhibit.
Pam Wallace and Jessie Strauch presented awards to DAR essay winners Kynzi Creighton and Reagan Truex at the awards banquet in Elida. Jessie also presented the DAR award to Victoria Vasquez at the Junior ROTC banquet.
Members present were Jessie Stauch, Pam Wallace, Nancy Bauder, Sandra Hays, Karolyn Sailer, Linda Baldock and Cori Snobble.
Altrusa of Portales
The Altrusa International, Inc. Club of Portales met on Monday, May 14th at noon at the Central Annex. President Gaynelle Thomas called the meeting to order. There were 21 members and four guests present. Nellie
Dyer led the opening ceremonies. The minutes and treasurer's reports were approved. Marnee Stratton gave the Altrusa Accent, and Dannah Brown drew for the Queen of Hearts.
Members who attended the District Ten Conference reported on it and then Thomas read the list of awards won by the club. Perfect attendance certificates were presented to: Lori Bohn, Wanda Pettus, Candy Howl,
Nellie Dyer, Jo Nell Brooks, Sheryl Borden, Lori Adams, Gaynelle Thomas, Pat Willis and Linda Leaming.
Leaming announced that the board meeting will be June 4 at KENW and the June 11 meeting will be presented by Orlando Ortega and Don Criss.
Cozetta Moore and Sharon Davis conducted the installation of officers using the incoming President's theme: "Filling the Dash Through Service."
Altrusa of Clovis
Altrusa International of Clovis met May 14. Members present were Kathy Travis, Sylvia Bean, Emily Nail, Emily Crowe, Judith Glikas, Bob and Pat McCullough, Glenda Hileman, Nancy Taylor, Carolyn Muffley, Judy Cox and Leslie McCloud. Guests in attendance were Margaret Hinchee, Mindy Watson, Lori Westerman, and Angie Spears. Hostesses Leslie McCloud and Judy Cox served the evening meal. State Senate candidate Angie Spears spoke to the club about her race for the New Mexico State Senate seat in District 7.
Kathy Travis reported about the recent Altrusa District Ten Conference in Ruidoso. The Clovis club was recognized as a Quality Club, won third place for the newsletter, was the club with the largest net gain in membership, and placed third in the Letha H. Brown award.
The scholarship committee announced that of 13 entries, Clovis High School senior, Maddie McNaughton, won a $500 scholarship from Altrusa of Clovis.
