Portales Public Works Director John DeSha said the Portales City Pool will re-open Wednesday for normal pool hours from 1 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
DeSha said city officials hoped to re-open the pool Tuesday but did not have enough lifeguards available.
The state health department ordered the swimming pool closed Friday until further notice after it was confirmed a child with an infectious parasitic disease swam in the pool last week, according to DeSha.
He said by law, the city is required to shut the swimming pool down and follow precautionary procedure to disinfect the water, which includes raising the disinfectant level for approximately 12 hours then bringing it back down to the normal level for another 12 hours.
DeSha said those who may have been in the pool with the child should not be worried but are advised to see a doctor if they are experiencing any symptoms related to cryptosporidiosis, which includes diarrhea, stomach pains and cramps, nausea, vomiting, dehydration and low fever.
