SNYDER, Texas —Eastern New Mexico University’s women finished third and the men seventh over the weekend in the Western Texas College rodeo.
The Zias tallied 285 points, trailing Texas Tech (355) and Vernon College (345). Junior Jessie Kirkes was second in the first go in 7.5 seconds and second in the short go in 7.8 in goat tying, while sophomore TiAda Grey was third in breakaway roping, placing first in the first go in 2.5 seconds and splitting third and fourth in the short go.
Also, senior Shambrae Williams was seventh in the first go and eighth over all in barrel racing.
The men scored 150 points. Tarleton State took team honors with 455 points, followed by Odessa College at 375.
Junior Christian Pettigrew led the Greyhounds with a sixth-place finish in steer wrestling, winning the first go and placing sixth in the short go. Junior Jake Bonner split eighth and ninth in the first go of calf roping, while senior Clinton Hiett and sophomore Jesse Clark were third in the first go of team roping.
ENMU teams return to action this weekend at the Howard College rodeo in Big Spring, Texas.
