ALBUQUERQUE — The Portales Lady Rams appear to be pretty solidly entrenched in third place after the first round of the Class 1A-3A girls state golf tournament at the UNM championship golf course.

PHS fired a four-player score of 398on Monday, 34 strokes behind second-place Bosque and 24 shots ahead of fourth-place Ruidoso.

The final 18 holes will be playeed today.

Junior Paige Hartman and senior Tyler Rowley are tied with each other for eighth place indiidually. Hartman shot 43-49 — 92 on Monday while Rowley came in a t 44-48 — 92.

Soccoro has four of the top seven individuals in the event and has a commanding team lead at 339. The Lady Warriors’ Kristen Cline leads a t 77, while Shania Berger is fourth at 82 and Brittani Webb and Mia Salome are part of a three-way tie for fifth at 90, two shots ahead of Rowley and Hartman.

Other scores for the Lady Rams include eighth-grader Bailey Rowley at 102, junior Kaitlyn Massey at 112 and senior Gabby Espinoza at 119.

In boys competition, St. Michael’s shot 340 for a one-stroke lead over Hope Christian. Three players are tied for the indivisu lead at 81.
