CARLSBAD — The Clovis Zia All-Stars stayed alive Monday night in the state Junior Division Little League tournament with an 11-1 win over Santa Fe.

Zia, which lost to Roswell Noon Optimists 11-4 in a second-round winners game on Sunday, is one of four teams left in the eight-team, double-elimination event, and will face Albuquerque Zia in a 5:30 p.m. clash today.

In other state tournaments, the Zia 10-11 squad came up short with a 9-8 loss to Albuquerque Westgate, also at Carlsbad.

Dominique Urioste had a two-run triple and Josh Chavez added an RBI double for Zia, while Daniel Morena also had a double. Westgate erased an 8-7 deficit with two runs in the top of the sixth, then got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom half for the win.

At Portales, the Zia 9-10 squad was eliminated on Sunday night in a 5-4 loss to Alamogordo Rotary. Meantime, Roosevelt County went out in the Major Division (11-12) tournament at Taos with a 12-2 setback to Carlsbad Shorthorn in the losers bracket on Sunday.
