The Portales News-Tribune reported that the ENMU School of Music opened its stage season the previous night with “An Evening at the Opera,” composed of three short operas under the direction of Richard Cage. The production in the ENMU University Theatre will run again that night only, beginning at 8 p.m.

Oct. 11, 1968

The Portales News-Tribune reported that rings for juniors and announcements for seniors headed the agenda at PHS the previous week. The rings juniors picked would bear the individuals’ initials, the year they would graduate and the letter “P” in the center of the red stone.

Sept. 1, 1949

The Portales Tribune reported hail damages to crops the previous Saturday west of Portales. The main blunt of the storm fell in the vicinity of the Tom Terry farm. Terry reported that 15 acres of his cotton were stripped of foliage and bolls. He also reported considerable damage to his sweet potato crop.
