March 9, 1960: Portales police were on the lookout for rock throwers. Frank’s University Food Store and Cooper-Hobbs Chevrolet both lost large plate-glass windows to the vandals within a week. Police Chief L.D. Baker said he knew of only one reason anyone would break the business’ windows: “Meanness.”
